Lavender is everywhere these days. My brother-in-law swears by Jeni's Wildberry Lavender ice cream. I have a lavender honey that I think is to die for. Even superstar Olivia Rodrigo has made lavender a huge part of her whole look (though, if push comes to shove and I have to pick just one purple superstar, I'm going with Prince).

But it's not just in ice cream and honey bath salts and candles and pop culture. The gorgeous purple flower is making some good noise in skincare.

 Lavender hydrosol is....

"Wait," you ask, "what's a hyrdrosol?"

Good question. Let's back up. A hydrosol is basically
the aromatic remains after a plant has been steam-distilled, sometimes known as essential water. So then lavender hydrosol is...

"Wait," you ask again, "what does steam-distilled mean?"

Another good question. Steam distillation is the process of extracting and isolating essential oils from plants (lavender, in this case) for use in products like Motherline. To get even more technical, the steam vaporizes the lavender's volatile compounds, which then go through a process of condensation and collection to give us the lavender hydrosol—milder than just straight essential oils—we (and you) need.

OK. Good questions. So, where were we? Oh, right.

"Antibacterial? How?" you ask, with yet another good question. Lavender is antibacterial in the way it kills bacteria that might otherwise (if you're like me) get into your pores and lead to acne. Look at a lot of our user testimonials: so many of them talk about how Motherline has helped prevent, calm, and heal breakouts. A lot of that is thanks to the lavender.

Lavender hydrosol also helps soothe eczema and other irritating, dry skin conditions.
It's one of the reasons I flipped out (in a good way) when I first tried Wayne's salve: it walks the line perfectly between oil and dryness. Never too much of either. That's because lavender helps balance sebum production in our skin, regulating how much oil we produce.

Want another weapon in the battle against skin enemies like premature aging, UV rays, pollution, and more? Lavender's antioxidants and phytochemicals are your new best friends. Its antioxidants fight free radical damage while its phytochemicals can help with lines, wrinkles, etc.

Lavender hydrosol also has significant anti-inflammatory properties to soothe and heal irritated skin—whether its sunburn, windburn, insect bites, rashes, or whatever else.

Taylor Swift wrote her 2022 song "Lavender Haze" based on an old phrase from the 50s and 60s (which she saw in an episode of Mad Men) about being so deeply in love with someone (or something) that you're oblivious to the outside world.

Honestly? That's kind of how we feel about lavender at Motherline.
